Tell us how it all started.
I qualified as an aviation finance lawyer and after a few years fell into interior design because of some projects I worked on jointly with my husband. I don’t think I’ve ever sat down to really think about whether or not I wanted to be an interior designer, I think if it’s a passion that’s what you become rather than it being a conscious decision. Now that I’m in the industry there is very little I don’t love about it.
What projects are you most proud of to date?
I’m proud of everything we have done right from the start, we have had so much recognition in the press recently for more recent work but I still post pictures of work I designed years ago and it still gets a huge amount of positive feedback and I think it’s interesting that what we do is by its very nature timeless and classic so I love all of it and hope that we never design anything that is only relevant for a moment in time.
What are your favourite design trends of A/W2018?
I love that there are lots of ‘design styles’ being merged at the moment and I’m not even sure this is an ‘official’ trend but it’s definitely something I feel I have seen coming up more frequently. I love contemporary interiors mixed with classic and even modern touches and when done properly can be quite exquisite.
What do you enjoy the most about what you do?
I love the actual interiors, creating spaces which make people feel good and adding more beauty into the world, I love our clients, and watching them live in our creations, I love watching the company grow from strength to strength, after all its named after my daughter and so it’s success personally means a great deal to me.
What style are you most inclined to - and why?
I always say contemporary classic but the reality is, my style evolves depending on my clients needs and their desires. It’s such an organic process and I feel it’s hard to define interiors, it would be like defining character and I find that impossible!
Are you working on anything exciting that you'd like to share with The Farthing?
I am working on some really exciting international projects which is a first for us, as we are growing we are being asked to do much more outside of the UK which is a real honour and privilege.
