Having a garden mirror that has a rustic look also has the added benefit of not needing to be maintained very often. A weathered look to an already rustic style mirror only adds character and an authentic feel to the garden. At the Farthing, we have a wide variety of different shapes, styles and sizes ranging from garden mirrors with a metal mirror frame to garden mirrors that have shelving that would be perfect for presenting planters. As well as bringing vibrant colours and light with your garden mirror they can also create a perception of more depth to a smaller sized garden. Try an outdoor window mirror which can add a great way of making a smaller garden feel less boxy and cramped.

Create an Illusion with your rustic garden mirror

An optical illusion known as Trompe-l'œil makes flat objects appear to be three-dimensional by putting them into perspective. This can be used as a fun talking point in your garden or as a way to extend your garden by tricking the eye by adding a beautiful rustic mirror with trickery elements. The Farthing has personally chosen some UK bespoke mirrors that boast these benefits by appearing to have mirrors in window frames or garden gates. These effects can create the illusion of seeing a whole other world on the other side of the frames. Double takes will be a common occurrence amongst your garden visitors!

How do I clean my metal outdoor mirror?

Having a weathered rustic mirror can sometimes look authentic and add to the industrial feel of your garden however it's important that you periodically clean your mirror so as not to have a build-up of grime and rust. Mix half a cup of water and baking soda and scrub it onto the metal. Leave it to rest for half an hour and wipe off with a damp cloth.

Where should I place my garden mirror?

It's important when you have a garden mirror whether it be a small round mirror or a large industrial mirror that you identify the best place for it. There are two main things to keep in mind. Identify the sunniest parts of your garden and find a suitable spot for the mirror where it will bounce the light into shadier areas of your garden.
